Mid October Update

First of all…Habs it would mean the world to me if you could win a second game this season.  Maybe? I still miss Saku.

I’ve been so overwhelmed trying to jam everything into my schedule before leaving for Vancouver for 2 weeks. Also let me just say that anxiously counting down for something is torture. I keep dreaming that I’m there already or at the airport or that I’m packing my luggage. Then I wake up and I have a week to go. That being said I have a full 7 days in front of me so I know it should go by fairly quickly.

Tomorrow is my foot tattoo. I’m absolutely terrified about the pain but I’ve been wanting this for 3 years now and I have to suck it up and just do it. I know how happy I’ll be once it’s done. After that Jason and I are headed to trade in super old nintendo and gameboy things in return for N64 games. When did I turn into a nintendo geek? I found our old N64 in the closet the other day and so many memories came rushing back to me. I spent a good handful of my nights as a kid playing Super Nintendo & N64 with my brother. We owned at Kirby let me just say. So Jason and I are going to revamp it and add some classic games. Then this summer I’ll be picking up the Super Nintendo from my brother. Apparently we’re planning on having a gaming room when we move out. Goodbye boyfriend.

I still have 3 shifts before I leave next Thursday and that includes an incredibly fun training session early Sunday morning. Sarcasm. That’s okay though because 24 hours and one Live Nation shift and I’m GONE for 12 days. Reunited with friends in Van and my best friend. I did my Halloween shopping last week and I’m super excited about the costumes I chose. I love getting dressed up. I really have no clue how I plan on packing all this stuff though. I’m the queen of overpacking.

I’m so antsy to get back to Vancouver. While I’d never ever want to live there(too far from home), I absolutely LOVE visiting it. Jason and I have also been seriously discussing something for the last couple of days and it looks like it might just happen. I don’t want to say anything until we find a way to make all of it work.

What else?

Oh yes..Hedley will be in town on November 10th. First time in over a year. The best part? I’m not even sure I got a spot to see them. That feels good when I’ve supported the band for over 6+ years. I realize fans come with success but I wish there was something there that guaranteed that those fans that have been there from the beginning aren’t left out on the street. Their brand new album comes out while I’m in Vancouver so I’ll be grabbing that before coming home.

Now that I’ve rambled I get to go make a list of places I want to visit in Vancouver.

RIP TAI

One of the things I was most excited for this month was The Academy Is & Jacks Mannequin show in Vancouver. Unfortunately, yesterday morning William Beckett announced that the band was breaking up. I’m so sad to see what’s happening to some of the best bands in the music industry. Augustana, a band I was introduced to by one of my best friends Jenn, broke up a few months ago as well. I remember her going on and on about how amazing they were and when they broke up I immediately wrote to her to say how sorry I was. She was devastated. I realize things to work out but it’s heart breaking on those people who follow a band from the beginning. I know if it ever happened to Hedley that  I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.

What makes it worse was that these shows were booked and they have officially backed out of them. I don’t even get to see TAI play one more time. It’s tough to be a music fan sometimes. I’ve been a fan of The Academy Is for about 4 years now and their music made me smile. I’ll never forget Jenns dance off to their song in Mexico or their show in Montreal..WILLLIIIAMMMM BECKETTTTTT!!!!!!!! RIP TAI.

In other news….HOCKEY IS BACK! Nothing makes me happier then getting together with friends to scream like men and eat like pigs. The summer is always so long without my hockey team. It wasn’t the best start to the season but I can take a lose to the Leafs because I feel like this is going to be a great season. Tonight it’s JETS/HABS. I’m so happy hockey is back in Canada:D

Thanksgiving Weekend

I used to think that summer was my favorite time of year but as I grow up I realize that nothing beats a beautiful fall day. There’s something about the smell of leaves and all the colors that bring me back to my childhood and just make me relaxed. I could walk for hours outdoors. The first real weekend of fall for me is always thanksgiving. I don’t know why, it just is.

On Friday night Mel, Jason, Caitlin, Sophie & I all went downtown for the Wakey!Wakey! show at ilMotore. We had a very fast dinner at Mikes, I got mine 20 minutes after everyone else and then headed over to the venue. I saw this band for the first time back in May with Jenn & Mel in Burlington. We’d all heard Mike Grubbs music on One Tree Hill and it was a love affair from there. His albums are probably in my Top 3 as is his band. It’s not only his music, it’s who he is as a musician. I’ll explain.

The show opened with Casey Shea another artist signed to Family Records. At this show we met the head of the label and I’ve realized that THIS is the type of label I want to work for. One that is family oriented and who treats their artists as musicians, not spoiled superstars. Caseys set was amazing and he made everyone laugh for the 30 minutes he was on the stage. After that Wakey!Wakey! hit the stage. I’m not going to lie, I was super suprised that the venue sold out. When we met Mike in Burlington he told us all about how much he wanted to come to Montreal so when the show was booked I was a little bit afraid that he’d be let down by our city and not want to come back. Boy was I wrong. I’m so proud to be a music fan in Montreal. We have kickass crowds.

When Wakey!Wakey! hit the stage the entire building shook. Mike & Tanya played for almost 2 straight hours. The crowd sang along for almost every single song and even sang the background vocals during Twenty Two. Mike kept stopping to laugh and tell the crowd how blown away he was by the reception they were getting. It was his first time in the city and he admitted that it was officially his favorite show and that we were the best crowd he’d ever played for. Nothing makes me smile more than a musician who DESERVES IT making it. He played long past the end of his set and told the crowd that he wanted to meet every singe person. During his set he casually talked non stop to the crowd and smiled the entire time. I have so much respect for this man as a muscian as well as a person. These are the people who should be huge in the music industry. Those artists who have worked hard and who are humbled by their fame. Not people like Rihanna and Kanye West who have heads too big to enter stadiums.

After the show we spoke with Wesley from Family records a little bit more and thanked Mike for playing an amazing show. I’m so excited to see a show in the near future.

On Saturday morning Jason & I headed to the Morgan Arboretum for a long walk through the woods. This has become tradition for me every thanksgiving weekend. I love walking through the trees and looking at all the color changes and enjoying the complete silence. The only part that is never fun is all the mud. After that we headed back to my house for a small thanksgiving dinner with my grandmother and godmother and I ate my weight in stuffing, which is generally what happens.

Only 18 more days until Vancouver and in that time I have to get through 9 shifts, a hair cut, a foot tattoo, pumpkin picking, a concert, a habs game….YAY!.

I’ve got another confession to make…

One of my goals on my 101 in 1001 days is to sit down and watch three music documentaries. I had watched the Hedley one and was hoping to find another one that featured a band I liked but that I didn’t know much about.

I sat down with the Foo Fighters documentary “Back & Forth” today and couldn’t believe how fast the hour and forty minutes flew by. A lot of people don’t know this but I grew up on this band. My brother used to blare their music around the house and for a few years I’d have their CD’s in my CD player on repeat. With so much musical competition I forgot about their music a little bit. I sat down to watch this documentary and I was reminded how much I loved their stuff. It brought me back to my childhood almost immediately.

I respect Dave Grohl to no end. I think he’s an absolute genius in the music industry, not to mention one of the most talented drummers out there. I never knew anything about the band though aside from their music. It was so interesting to learn about everything that they had been through. What blew me away the most was learning how hard they struggled to differentiate themselves from the Nirvana past.  I never knew how much controversy and hate Dave got for creating a band after Kurt Cobains death.

Watching this made me love music even more than I already do. I’m so sad I missed their show here a few weeks ago. On top of that they’ll be in Vancouver two days before I get there. I would love to see them live. Veterans in this industry are the most fun to watch.
